There are many newsworthy stories locked away in vaults in the ground, or charred and scattered, forgotten to the world. The deceased are key to our immediate history, and before they went on their way they left clues to their existence. This blog will trawl records, visit graves, trace steps and eventually piece together the life of a Sydneysider long gone in body, but present in legacy.

I am an Journalism Student at the University of Wollongong. Born in the dusty ochre bowl of the Orange Free state in South Africa and raised among the damp green affluence of Southern England, I was always aware that there was much more out there than the immediate. Following the completion of my secondary school education, the option of further blind studying was far outweighed by the attraction of some wide eyed investigation. At 18 I began planning a trip to South America, starting purposefully in the country I knew the least about; Ecuador.Having joined a voluntary conservation organization I spent the fateful year of 2003 working and traveling in South and Central America. This journey in a very roundabout and poorly planned manor brought me via Southern Africa to the place I now call home; Australia. The unique cultural confluence which exists in Australia has captured my imagination since arrival and from this source of fascination I have found fuel for my interest in Journalism.
